Armor Screen recently had the opportunity to design and install a custom hurricane protection system for the City of Sarasota’s beautiful, historic Federal building. Make sure you check out the video above and read more below to learn more about this incredible experience.

History of Sarasota’s Federal Building

Originally built by New York architect George Albree Freeman and Sarasota resident Harold N. Hall as a US Post Office in the early 1930’s. Realizing its importance, this 22,000 square foot building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. Several decades after its opening, the City of Sarasota purchased it in the year 2000 from the Federal Government. After undergoing a $3.5 million renovation, the newly restored building was re-opened in 2003 as a central location for multiple city offices and services.

Armor Screen’s Work

Due to the Federal building’s importance as a historical landmark to the residents of Sarasota, the City did not want to risk damage to this precious site from destructive hurricanes. So, they contacted Armor Screen to help them protect the property, while also preserving the nearly 90 year old architecture.

Armor Screen assessed all aspects of the project, with maintaining the building’s historical integrity as their top priority. After receiving the necessary approvals to begin their work, Armor Screen’s team of experts designed, manufactured, and installed their top of the line wind abatement system to protect the many vulnerable areas of Sarasota’s Federal Building.

After installation, Armor Screen trained the building and city staff to ensure they could properly deploy the custom hurricane protection system at a moment’s notice; no tools necessary.
