Hurricane season is upon us once again. After 2017’s highly active season, forecasters are predicting a slightly more normal, but still active 2018 hurricane season. Hurricane season goes from June 1st through November 30th. Here are a few tips to help you and your family get ahead of the storm and avoid the worst when it comes to hurricane damage.

  • Contact Armor Screen for your custom quote as soon as possible. Don’t wait until a category five storm is headed your way to give us a call.
  • Check your home insurance policy to make sure you are covered for the type of wind and flood damage that commonly accompanies a hurricane. Do this early – preferably before the start of the season. If you wait until a hurricane is imminent, you will be unable to make any changes to your existing policy.
  • Before June 1st, make sure your hurricane kit is stocked. A solid hurricane kit includes the following items:
    • Water, one gallon per person per day (three-day minimum)
    • Food, a three-day supply of non-perishable food that doesn’t require cooking
    • Flashlights, with extra batteries
    • Hand-crank or battery-powered radio, with extra batteries. Bonus if the radio is a NOAA weather radio.
    • First-aid kit
    • Cellphone charger with a backup battery
    • Necessary medications, and a list of any medical conditions you or someone in your family might have
  • Be familiar with your evacuation zone and the established evacuation routes, should the need arise
  • If you have a generator, make sure you have enough fuel.
  • If you haven’t installed any of our Armor Screen systems, make sure you have appropriate protection for the openings in your home. Plywood that is 5/8” thick works well as homemade hurricane shutters. Stock up at the beginning of the season to avoid standing in long lines later on.
  • Set a reminder to call Armor Screen after the storm abates. We would be happy to give you a quote to protect your home from the next hurricane.

Remember, when it comes to hurricanes, it is always better to over-prepare than be under-prepared. If you would like more information on any of our hurricane protection systems, contact us today and we will be happy to help you out.
